ABOUT US
The Bega Valley Skin Cancer Clinic has been developed after an increased demand for a skin cancer screening, early detection, education and treatment, and in response to statistics that our region (South Coast NSW) had 1.4 times the incidence of Melanoma compared to the rest of NSW.
It also came to our attention that our region’s 5 year survival rate of melanoma was 79% as compared to 85% being that of the rest of NSW.
Australia has one of the highest incidence of skin cancers in the world. This includes melanoma which apart from prevention, the most effective cure is early detection.
The Bega Valley with its beach and outdoor lifestyle may pose additional risks in the development of skin cancer. Doctors and nurses at our clinic have additional training in skin cancer surgery which permits our clinic to offer treatment to more complex surgical cases.
We hope that the majority of patients we treat at our clinic will lessen the burden on our public health system thereby offering efficient and timely treatments to most skin cancer patients. More complicated and risky procedures after detection are still referred to appropriate skilled surgeons.
