OUR SKIN CLINIC STATISTICS
Our clinic keeps records and regular audits of skin cancer diagnosis. Mainly melanomas diagnosed.
For example, over an 18 month period up to August 2019 we have diagnosed 41 early (98% plus cure rate) melanomas. 2 moderately advanced melanomas and 1 advanced melanoma.
The ages of patients varied between 23 years and 91 years.
These patients had no prior symptoms or knowledge of the melanomas but found only after presenting for a skin check.
Evidence indicates, especially in the case of melanomas, early detection and screening especially of high-risk individuals remains the best form of treatment.
As in the case of most medical conditions, changes may occur between checks so a benign skin mole may change over time or new abnormalities may appear.
Regular checks help identify changes and patients are encouraged to report any such changes.
Not all melanomas can be identified, despite the best efforts of examiners
Patient education, awareness and prevention are always encouraged by our clinic
